What does this setting do?

The name is the only thing almost every player will ever see of your server. In the server list it competes with hundreds of others, and people search there by fragments of text — whoever has PVE, EU or loot in the name gets found by those searches, nobody else does.

What works: language or region, playstyle, then what makes you different. Special characters and emoji stand out but hurt discoverability, because nobody types them.

On rented servers the name usually comes from the provider's panel and is written into the file from there — a change made directly in the file can be overwritten at the next save.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

Put playstyle and language in the name, such as "EU PVE".

Classic PvP

Keep it short and recognisable.

Hardcore

Name the harshness so nobody arrives with wrong expectations.

What to watch out for

Often driven by the panel on rented servers

GPortal and Nitrado set the name through their web interface. Change it in the file and the next save from the panel may restore the old one.

A rename costs you regulars

Returning players see the server as a new entry. Announce a rename in your Discord beforehand.
