What does this setting do?

The game knows exactly six categories, and they are fixed: PVE, PVP, PVPVE, RPPVE, RPPVP and Other. Any other value is rejected when enrolling with the master server – the logs then say, in effect, that the entry is not a valid playstyle.

PVE and PVP are the two common ones. PVPVE covers mixed servers where both occur – PvP only in certain areas or at certain times, for instance. The two RP categories mean roleplay: RPPVE without player combat, RPPVP with it. Other is the catch-all for anything that fits none of the five.

Note that the entry changes no game rule whatsoever. It does not disable PvP and lowers no damage. Enter PVE while leaving player damage at 1.0 and you still have a server where players can kill each other – just with a misleading label. If you really want PvE, lower the damage between players.

The category decides which players get to see your server at all, because most of them filter by it. That makes it one of the few settings that act outwards – and it belongs to your server concept, not to its difficulty.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

PVE or RPPVE – and then lower player damage too, or the label does not match.

Classic PvP

PVP, or PVPVE when PvP is limited by time or place.

Hardcore

Pick what fits your concept. Harsh and PvE are not mutually exclusive.

What to watch out for

Only these six values are valid

PVE, PVP, PVPVE, RPPVE, RPPVP, Other. Spellings such as “PvE” or “PVEPVP” are unknown to the game; master server enrolment rejects them.

The category is not a switch

It changes nothing about the game. If you want PvE, lower the damage between players – the label alone will not do it.

Set wrongly it drives players away

Most people pick their server by this category. State PVE while allowing PvP and you get complaints instead of players.
