What turrets attack
Six switches decide which targets automated turrets fire at – from players and puppets to animals.
What does this setting do?
A deployed turret picks its own targets. These six switches decide what counts as a target at all. Everything except animals is on by default.
The first one matters most: as long as turrets fire at players, they are a defence installation. Turn it off and they become an anti-puppet device – useful if you want bases to defend themselves against the world while attacks between players stay a matter of hand-to-hand decision. That very split is what makes these switches valuable on PvE servers.
Vehicles has the largest side effect. With it on, a turret also shoots vehicles that merely drive past too closely – including your own, when a squad mate misjudges the boundary. On servers with heavy traffic around bases it causes more trouble than protection.
Animals is off on purpose, for a practical reason: chickens, rabbits and crows would trigger it constantly, burn ammunition and give the base away through muzzle flash. Switch it on and the turret will effectively never stop working.
Sentries and armed NPCs are the harmless ones. They only decide whether the turret joins in against the game's own guard installations and patrols – nice to watch, with no consequences for balance.

Which value suits my server?
Players off, puppets and armed NPCs on, vehicles off. The base defends itself against the world, not against visitors.
Leave everything at default. Turrets are part of the defence here and are meant to hurt.
Everything on, animals included. Anyone placing a turret pays for it in ammunition and attention.
What to watch out for
Your own squad mates and your own vehicles get targeted once they enter range. That is by design – but it is the most common source of complaints after switching these on.
Small wildlife triggers the installation every few minutes. If you set this switch, watch the ammunition – and remember that every shot can be heard.
How hard a turret hits is set elsewhere. To defuse turrets rather than disable them, lower the damage there instead.
