What does this setting do?

Applies to food only. 1.0 is the game default, 0.5 halves the pace of spoilage, 0 keeps food fresh indefinitely.

This value decides whether provisioning is a task. With fast spoilage players have to cook, preserve or hunt regularly, and cooling and smoking gain importance — the whole chain from farming through cooking to preservation acquires purpose. With slow spoilage a single large stash lasts for weeks and half that mechanic becomes meaningless.

Spoiled food in SCUM is not merely worthless, it makes you ill — so the value also affects the health of inattentive players.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

0.5. Provisioning stays manageable without becoming a second job.

Classic PvP

1.0.

Hardcore

1.0 to 1.5. Freshness becomes something to plan around.

What to watch out for

Hits new players first

Anyone without an oven, a smoker or cooling loses a large share of their finds to fast spoilage. High values belong on servers with an experienced regular crowd.
