What does this setting do?

Everything players own loses durability over time — clothing, backpacks, tools, weapons. This multiplier sets the pace. 0 disables time-based decay entirely, 2.0 doubles it.

The value determines how long building up stays worthwhile. With high decay, good equipment is a consumable that constantly needs replacing — that keeps players moving but devalues everything they gather. At 0 every find lasts indefinitely, and after a few months all your regulars own everything.

Covers time-based decay only, not wear from use — shooting, chopping and fighting run through their own values.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

0.3 to 0.5. Collecting stays meaningful.

Classic PvP

1.0.

Hardcore

1.5. Nothing lasts forever.

What to watch out for

Stockpiles decay too

Items sitting unused in a crate take damage as well. Large stashes quietly lose value without anyone noticing.

0 has side effects on the economy

Without decay, demand for replacements and repair materials falls. Trader turnover and the value of crafting skills drop with it.
