What does this setting do?

Between the settlements the server creates open-world encounters from time to time, and their type is rolled for. This value is the weight of puppets in that roll. It ships as 1.0.

The distinction between weight and amount matters. The value does not say how many puppets there are but how often the roll lands on puppets rather than another type. Double it and you do not get twice as many encounters – proportionally more of them will be puppets, and correspondingly fewer of everything else.

So it only acts relatively. Double every weight and nothing changes. Double only this one and the open countryside becomes puppet territory.

Actual totals are governed by the encounters' base amounts and the puppet cap. This value is the tool for “what do I meet out there?”, not for “how much do I meet?”.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

0.5 to 1.0. You should sometimes get through the countryside.

Classic PvP

1.0 (default).

Hardcore

1.5 to 2.0. Open country is not safe.

What to watch out for

A weight, not an amount

The value only shifts the ratio between encounter types. For more enemies overall, the base amounts are responsible.

Raising all weights equally does nothing

Weight every type the same and the distribution stays identical. Only differences between weights have an effect.
