What does this setting do?

With this on, a player does not come back in peak condition after death but weakened — the game calls it cloning sickness, and it lasts for a while after respawning.

It is the only setting that gives death an immediate physical consequence. Without it, dying in SCUM mainly costs equipment and time; with it there is a phase of weakness during which you do not throw yourself straight back into the fight.

Valuable on PvP servers because it curbs running straight back to the battle. On PvE servers it is an extra hurdle with little in return.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

Off. Death already costs enough time.

Classic PvP

On (default). Curbs immediate returns.

Hardcore

On.

What to watch out for

Applies to accidents as well

Dying from a fall or an illness also brings you back weakened. On servers with harsh metabolism that compounds.
