What does this setting do?
Logging out on your bedroll leaves it in the world for a short while. This value says how long – in seconds, and the default is one.
What sounds harmless is one of the shrewdest settings in the whole configuration. It decides whether hidden sleeping spots can be tracked down. At one second a bedroll is gone almost instantly, and someone logging out in a bush cannot be found. At two minutes an attentive pursuer can still spot the bedroll and thereby learn where somebody regularly disappears.
For PvP servers that is the difference between “logging out is a safe exit” and “logging out leaves a trace”. If players vanishing mid-fight annoys you, this is an effective lever – more effective than any logout timer, which only prevents the disappearance, not the anonymity of the place.
On PvE servers it hardly matters and the default can stay.
Which value suits my server?
1 to 5 seconds. Nobody is looking for the bedroll.
30 to 120 seconds. Logging out should leave a trace.
120 to 300 seconds. Slip away and you can be tracked.
What to watch out for
The default of 1 means one second, not one minute. For a noticeable effect you need double-digit values.
This value prevents nobody from logging out mid-fight. It only decides whether the place stays findable afterwards.
