What does this setting do?

This is not a gameplay setting but a repair tool. After a hard crash or a restore from backup, the same chest can end up in the world twice. This switch has the server remove such duplicates on its next start.

It is off by default and should stay that way in daily operation. The server decides for itself which of the two chests is the real one – and if it gets that wrong, player gear is gone. There is no way back and no list of what was removed.

The clean procedure is: take a backup, switch it on, start the server once, switch it off again. Leaving it on permanently gains nothing, because normal operation produces no duplicates, while costing a risk on every start.

While you are at it, it pays to have the chest ownership log enabled: you can then reconstruct afterwards which chests belonged to whom.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

Off. Emergencies only, and only for one start.

Classic PvP

Off. The same.

Hardcore

Off. This has nothing to do with difficulty.

What to watch out for

Back up before switching it on

The operation cannot be undone. Without a backup, deleted player gear is gone for good.

Do not leave it on

Normal operation produces no duplicates, so a permanently enabled switch brings only the risk and none of the benefit.
