What does this setting do?

The map has areas where building is not meant to happen: bunker entrances, military grounds, trader zones, airfields, major roads and the fixed locations where the game itself spawns things. This switch keeps those restrictions in force, and it is on by default.

Turning it off sounds like more freedom and is in practice the fastest way to damage a server. A base over a bunker entrance makes the bunker unusable for everyone else. A base in a trader zone blocks trading. A base on a spawn point can wall players in as they return.

If you want to open up specific areas, know that this switch is all or nothing: there is no list of individual zones to lift. Either every fixed no-build zone applies or none does.

What happens to chests that end up in a forbidden zone anyway is governed by its own value – that one states how long they may stand there before the server removes them.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

On. Traders and bunkers have to stay reachable for everyone.

Classic PvP

On. Otherwise whoever walls off a bunker first owns half the map.

Hardcore

On. Freedom to build is not the right kind of harshness here.

What to watch out for

All or nothing

The switch knows no exceptions for individual areas. Off lifts every no-build zone on the map.

Existing structures stay

Switching it back on does not remove whatever went up while it was off. An admin has to clear those by hand.
