Minimum distance to existing buildings
Stops players building directly against or inside the world's existing houses.
scum.UseBuildingProximityRestrictions=True
What does this setting do?
This switch keeps player construction away from the island's existing buildings. It is on by default and makes sure nobody simply drops a wall into a doorframe or seals a village house from the outside.
The reason is practical, not aesthetic. The world's houses are loot locations: that is where the server spawns items, where puppets walk their routes, where players search. Build them shut and you take them away from everyone else – and because those houses never decay, the damage stays.
Turning it off is nonetheless a known choice, especially on roleplay servers where people want to convert an existing village into somewhere habitable. The results can be lovely, but it needs a community that keeps to agreements and an admin who steps in.
The switch only governs distance to world buildings. Whether flags may be placed on player structures lives in its own value.
Which value suits my server?
On. Loot houses should stay usable for everyone.
On. Walled-off villages are the single most common source of arguments.
On. If you want a base, build it yourself.
What to watch out for
World buildings never decay. Whatever was built over while this was off stays until an admin removes it.
This switch governs distance to houses. The fixed restricted areas such as bunkers and traders hang on a different setting.
