What does this setting do?

Puppets scream when they spot a player. Most screams only bring the immediate surroundings. Some of them, however, trigger an entire horde. This value sets how large that share is – in percent, range 0 to 100, default -1 for the game's own value.

This is the value behind the chain reaction players wonder about most: a single puppet spots somebody, screams – and two minutes later half the village is on the move. If you do not want that experience on your server, set a low number or 0 here.

At 0 hordes are not disabled, only decoupled from this one cause. They still form from gunfire and vehicle noise, just not from a single puppet having spotted you.

Conversely a high value makes being spotted a genuine danger. Stealth then does not merely pay off, it becomes necessary – and on a harsh server that is exactly the appeal.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

0 to 10. One spotted puppet should not wake the village.

Classic PvP

-1 (game default).

Hardcore

50 to 100. Being spotted has real consequences.

What to watch out for

The most common cause of sudden hordes

When players report hordes coming “out of nowhere”, this value is usually the reason rather than the general activation chance.

-1 is not 0

The default means game default. To decouple it for certain, enter 0.
