What does this setting do?

This switch plays a signal when a horde starts. It is off by default.

Turning it on is one of the kindest changes you can make to hordes, and it costs nothing. Players then know something has started and can react: fall back into a building, run for the vehicle, warn the group. Without the signal you only notice once the horde is close enough to be seen – and by then the decision has often been made for you.

Leave it off if you want hordes staged as a sudden shock. That suits servers built on tension that want players kept wary.

Together with the spawn distance it gives the total warning time: a signal plus a large distance gives plenty, no signal plus a small distance gives none.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

On. An audible warning makes hordes bearable.

Classic PvP

On. The warning applies to both sides and creates interesting situations.

Hardcore

Off. The horde arrives unannounced.

What to watch out for

It warns other players too

Everyone nearby hears the signal. On PvP servers it therefore also reveals that somebody has just made noise there.
