Allow the crosshair
The fixed crosshair in the centre of the screen – without it you have to aim down the weapon.
scum.AllowCrosshair=True
What does this setting do?
Without a crosshair you only hit when you actually shoulder the weapon and aim through its sights. With one you can shoot accurately from the hip and in third person. It is allowed by default.
This is the classic second switch after the view question, and the two work together. Third person plus crosshair makes for a very accessible game in which you can shoot around corners without exposing yourself. Third person without a crosshair takes that advantage away again without banning the view – for many servers the best compromise.
Without a crosshair close combat gets noticeably harder, and that hits newcomers worst. On a server that wants to attract new players, the crosshair is a cheap favour.
Note that this only concerns the fixed marker in the centre of the screen. Scopes, sights and shouldering the weapon are unaffected and keep working.
Which value suits my server?
On. Newcomers have a much easier time with it.
On if third person is off – otherwise rather off, to devalue corner peeking.
Off. You aim down the weapon.
What to watch out for
Third person and crosshair together allow accurate shooting from cover. If you want to restrict one of the two, know which.
Sights and scopes stay unchanged. Only the fixed marker in the centre of the screen disappears.
