What does this setting do?

Hardly any switch changes the feel of the game as much as this one. In third person you can see around corners, over walls and behind you without moving. It is allowed by default.

In PvP that is the decisive point. Someone crouched behind a wall sees the attacker coming without being visible themselves – so-called corner peeking. A first-person-only server reverses that: seeing always costs risk. Which is why “first person or not” is the first selection criterion many players apply when browsing servers.

For newcomers, and for everything involving building, driving and exploring, third person is a genuine help. Vehicles are considerably easier to steer with it, and seeing your own character is part of the game for many.

A server offering both leaves the choice to the player – which is the reason for the default. If you change it, do so before launch and say so clearly. Switching from allowed to forbidden mid-wipe reliably costs players, because their accustomed way of playing changes overnight.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

On. Building and driving are simply more pleasant with it.

Classic PvP

A deliberate decision that belongs in the server name. Both routes have their audience.

Hardcore

Off. First person is the basis of fair firefights.

What to watch out for

Do not switch mid-season

People's playing style depends on it. Changing it mid-wipe reads as a new server rule – and is received as one.

It belongs in the server name

Players search specifically for first-person servers. Leave it out of your name or description and you lose exactly the players you are after.
