What does this setting do?

This switch removes the permanently visible bars at the edge of the screen. It is called Hide, so on means the readouts are gone. They are there by default.

It is the most effective switch for a denser atmosphere, and the most honest one: the figures are not lost, they still live in the BCU. You simply have to call them up instead of seeing them in passing. That turns a warning light into an action – you check how you are doing, and it costs a moment in which you are not watching.

For newcomers it is a hard cut nonetheless. Anyone who does not yet know the signs of hunger, thirst and hypothermia only notices them without bars once it hurts.

A good middle road for servers that want both: leave the readouts on and turn the map off instead. That creates a similar atmosphere without players dying to things they could not see coming.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

Off (readouts stay). Newcomers need the feedback.

Classic PvP

Off (readouts stay).

Hardcore

On (readouts gone). Your condition lives in the BCU.

What to watch out for

The switch is worded negatively

True hides, False shows.

The values are not gone

Everything is still in the BCU. Mentioning that in your server description saves a lot of questions.
