Allow mines and traps
Whether explosive traps, mines and set traps may be used.
scum.AllowMinesAndTraps=True
What does this setting do?
This switch permits or forbids the whole category: mines, explosive traps, bear traps, wire traps. They are allowed by default.
It makes a large difference to how the game feels. Traps are the only tool with which a base defends itself while nobody is online – turrets aside. Forbid them and bases become storage rooms at heart, with all defence resting on walls and presence.
On PvE servers the ban is nonetheless often right, because of a side effect: traps do not only catch attackers. A visitor, a trading partner, a helpful neighbour – all walk into them just the same. On a server that lives on friendly dealings, traps are a constant source of misunderstandings.
On PvP servers they belong on. They are the counterweight for small groups who cannot man their base around the clock.
Which value suits my server?
Off. Visitors should not walk into their host's traps.
On. For small groups it is the only defence while away.
On. Step onto someone else's ground and watch where you tread.
What to watch out for
Squad mates and invited guests set them off too. On friendly servers that is the most common complaint.
A later ban does not remove what is already in the world. A cleanup round after switching is worthwhile.
