What does this setting do?

When placing an element or item, the game shows a translucent preview – the so-called ghost – that tells you where the thing will go and whether it fits at all. This switch removes it.

Mind the direction: the value is called Disable, so on means no preview. It ships as off, so the preview is there.

Turning it off makes building considerably more laborious and at the same time prevents a known use: the preview lets you feel out where walls and rooms run, even through closed doors. If you want to rule out that kind of reconnaissance, this is the switch.

The price is high. Without a preview, misplacements become the rule, and on a server that lives on building you notice it straight away. For most servers it is not worth it.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

Off (preview stays). Building should be pleasant.

Classic PvP

Off (preview stays), unless you have concrete problems with bases being felt out.

Hardcore

On (no preview). Suits a server that wants to give nothing away.

What to watch out for

The switch is worded negatively

True removes the preview, False keeps it. Read it as “allow preview” and you get the opposite.
