What does this setting do?

The value is checked on connection and monitored during play. The default of 400 milliseconds is generous — it admits players from other continents whose connection is noticeably but playably delayed.

The downside is that high ping has tangible consequences in combat: hits are computed late, and to the other side it looks as if the player takes damage late or not at all. On PvP servers a lower limit is therefore not exclusion but fairness — for both sides.

Only effective when the ping check is enabled.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

400 to 600. Everyone gets to play.

Classic PvP

400 (default), 250 if complaints arise.

Hardcore

200 to 400.

What to watch out for

It excludes regions

A limit below 150 locks out practically everyone outside your own continent. On small servers that costs more players than the fairness gain is worth.

Only works with the check enabled

With the ping check off, anyone can connect regardless of what stands here.
