What does this setting do?

This value stops a player returning to the game right next to somebody else's base. The figure is in metres, and the default reads 10000 – ten kilometres.

That number surprises most people at first glance, since the island only measures some fifteen square kilometres. Ten kilometres from every base is practically impossible to honour on a well-settled map. The value is better understood as a wish: the server places the entry point as far away as it can and gives up when it cannot.

It takes effect where there is room to manoeuvre – with random entry points and with sector respawn. It reliably prevents the most infuriating case: waking up inside somebody else's base or right in front of their turrets.

Lowering it only pays on very densely built servers where the high value noticeably delays entry. Do not go below 500 metres, or you create exactly the situation the setting exists to prevent.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

5000 to 10000. Lower on densely built maps.

Classic PvP

10000 (default). Nobody should wake up in front of someone else's turrets.

Hardcore

10000 to 15000.

What to watch out for

The number exceeds what the map allows

Ten kilometres from every base is impossible on a settled island. The server takes the greatest distance it can and compromises when it must.

Stated in metres

10000 is ten kilometres, not ten metres. Enter a 10 here and you have effectively disabled the setting.
