What does this setting do?

This is a multiplier on the flow of island time. 1.0 would be real time — a game day would then take a full 24 hours. The default 3.84 compresses the whole day-night cycle into a good six hours, of which roughly two are darkness, depending on your sun times.

This is the strongest lever on the rhythm of play, because it determines how often a player meets nightfall within one session. Someone playing two evening hours entirely in darkness has a completely different evening than someone who only catches dusk.

Do the arithmetic before changing it: 24 divided by the multiplier gives the length of a game day in real hours. At 6.0 that is four hours, at 12.0 only two.

Which value suits my server?

Relaxed PvE

3.84 to 6.0. Nights stay short and night vision never becomes mandatory.

Classic PvP

3.84 (default). Night remains a tactical window.

Hardcore

2.0 to 3.0. Long nights where carrying a light is a risk.

What to watch out for

Sun times do not move with it

Sunrise and sunset are separate clock times and stay where you put them. A higher speed shortens day and night in the same proportion but does not shift their ratio. To only shorten nights, change the sun times instead.

Very high values disrupt farming

Plant growth, spoilage and cooldowns all follow game time. With heavily accelerated time, days pass in minutes and stockpiling becomes unpredictable.
